C19 The Storm in the Police Station.

Bai Jiuyan couldn't help but laugh in frustration. She turned to Lee Guohui with a pointed question.

"How can you be so sure it wasn't your son who committed murder and then fled to escape the consequences?"

Lee Guohui's face turned ashen at her words, and he shot back with a threat.

"You've got some nerve! Do you have any idea who I am to talk to me like that?!"

Feigning a sudden realization, Bai Jiuyan replied.

"Oh, my apologies. I didn't quite recognize you earlier. Are you the renowned Lee Guohui, the head of the Lee family?"

Upon hearing this, Lee Guohui's demeanor softened slightly. He huffed dismissively and gestured with a wave of his hand, as if he was above squabbling with someone like Bai Jiuyan.

Seizing the moment, Bai Jiuyan feigned ignorance as she pressed on.

"I wonder, can Old Mr. Lee prevent the video of your son's murder from circulating on major websites? If not, I fail to see why you're pressuring our auction house."

Lee Guohui, a seasoned player in the game, immediately caught the underlying threat in her words and responded angrily.

"You dare to threaten me?!"

Undeterred, Bai Jiuyan stepped closer, tilting her head up defiantly.

"If Old Mr. Lee would kindly adhere to the proper procedures, we will certainly do the same and keep the evidence confidential. But if you intend to strong-arm us outside of those procedures, don't be surprised if we can't keep things under wraps."

Zhou Keqin listened with keen interest.

She now understood how Bai Jiuyan, despite her youthful appearance, had managed to build such a substantial enterprise.

The Nine Hu Auction House had rapidly become a prominent name in Erostey, and its owner clearly had more than a few tricks up her sleeve.

Realizing it was her cue to intervene, Zhou Keqin stepped in to soothe Lee Guohui's ruffled feathers.

"Old Mr. Lee, for the sake of Young Master Lee's reputation, I would advise lifting the blockade on the Nine Hu Auction House. It aligns better with our procedural approach to the case. Wouldn't you agree?"

Lee Guohui, visibly reluctant, clenched his jaw.

But Bai Jiuyan wasn't finished. She added another jab.

"Also, Old Mr. Lee, please expedite the transfer of the two hundred million yuan to our auction house's account. I'm sure you wouldn't want your son to be known not only for murder but also for defaulting on a debt."

With a courteous smile to Zhou Keqin, she bowed slightly.

"I apologize for the intrusion today over such trivial matters. I'll take my leave now."

Without waiting for a response from Lee Guohui, Bai Jiuyan exited the office without a backward glance.

Lee Guohui was left seething, unable to express his fury, his gaze following Bai Jiuyan's departure with lethal intent. After she left, he was overcome with anger, steadying himself on the desk and clutching at his heart.

Zhou Keqin couldn't help but find the situation amusing, yet she maintained a composed smile and inquired with genuine concern.

"Old Mr. Lee, are you okay?"

Lee Guohui's fists were tight, his knuckles popping as he managed through gritted teeth.

"I'm fine, thank you for your concern, Ms. Zhou."

Struggling to regain his composure, he stood up, bid Zhou Keqin farewell, and left the office.

...

As soon as Bai Jiuyan stepped out of the police station, she sensed she was being followed.

With a cold snort, she feigned ignorance of the shadows trailing her and deliberately meandered through the city's streets and alleys.

At last, Bai Jiuyan found herself in a deserted alley, far from the prying eyes of the Demon Slayer Division. The tails, thinking they had seized the perfect opportunity, finally showed their true colors, cornering her.

With a smirk, Bai Jiuyan crossed her arms and removed her sunglasses, revealing eyes as captivating as ripples on an autumn pond. The lead assassin's heart fluttered for a brief moment.

"Yo, big brothers, you've been tailing me for quite a while. Have I perhaps offended someone?"

The sleazy assassin licked his lips and approached with a lecherous grin, wiping his hands on his sleeves.

"Bad luck for you, pretty lady, you've crossed our bosses. They've ordered your execution, but I appreciate beauty. Entertain us for a bit, and we'll ensure your body remains intact. How about it?"

The killers exchanged glances and let out a collective, lascivious laugh, as if Bai Jiuyan was already in their grasp.

Bai Jiuyan scoffed and assessed their power levels. The highest among them was merely at the mid-Profound Level. She wondered where their confidence came from.

Before the assassins could even register what was happening, a flurry of furry tails appeared before their eyes, swiftly wrapping around their necks. In an instant, the sound of snapping bones echoed through the alley, and the four assassins lay lifeless on the ground.

The two remaining assassins, dumbfounded, were about to cry out "Demon..." when the tails struck with the speed of lightning, knocking them out cold.

Bai Jiuyan retracted her tails with a flourish and mockingly stuck her tongue out at the fallen men.

"Pah, you think you can take me on with such meager skills?"

Unbeknownst to her, a pair of eerie green eyes watched the entire scene from the eaves above.

...

Meanwhile, after signing his contract, Mo Fann was hastily ushered to the 20th floor by the eager HR manager.

"Um, could you explain what we're doing now? I was under the impression I'd just be accepting missions online," Mo Fann queried, puzzled by the deviation from the advertised job process.

Loong Cangyun gave him an appraising look, his smile never wavering.

"When I first heard your voice, I assumed you were well into your fifties or sixties. But after our conversation, it's clear you're quite young—early twenties, I'd wager?"

"To have reached the Peak of Earth Level at such a young age, you must be a rare talent in Erostey. That's precisely why I'm taking you upstairs—to meet someone very interested in seeing you."

It was then that Mo Fann regarded the white-haired man before him with caution. The man's piercing gaze had accurately deduced Mo Fann's age just from his voice, signaling that he was far from harmless.

Loong Cangyun chuckled and clapped Mo Fann on the shoulder.

"No need to be on edge, young man. Over the years, I've seen my fair share of Hunters in disguise. It's not uncommon for some to go as far as altering their voices. Our club has strict rules—we never pry into a Hunter's private life or identity. You're in safe hands."
