C3 The Demon Suppressing Tower
"Su Yi."
Cao Qinglang was utterly dumbstruck.
He never imagined that Su Yi would actually agree to enter the Demon Suppressing Tower. Did he enjoy pain or something?
“Have you made up your mind?” Lin Qingshan asked.
He was just as stunned as everyone else in the room.
On the surface, the challenge provided by the Demon Suppressing Tower served as an alternative avenue for the students to prove that they had enough worth and promise to continue learning cultivation in the academy.
But that was all it was, a decorative rule. Ever since its implementation, the number of students who had attempted to enter the Demon Suppressing Tower could be counted on one hand.
Those who had been presented with the option had mostly chosen to leave the school instead.
“Yes, Sir,” Su Yi replied solemnly.
Once more, chaos erupted inside the classroom.
“What?! Su Yi really wants to take on the Demon Suppressing Tower? Is he insane?”
“Either that or he’s just plain stupid.”
“The Demon Suppressing Tower is not a place he could just saunter into, especially given his lack of talent.”
Their mockery seemed to have doubled over. Clearly, no one was expecting Su Yi to take on such a challenge.
“All right,” Lin Qingshan said. “Come with me.”
There was a glint in his eyes as he nodded at Su Yi and walked out of the room.
More than strength, a martial artist must possess courage.
Even the teacher couldn’t help but commend Su Yi for his resolve.
The boy certainly had the heart and the spine for martial arts. It was quite a pity that he was too weak and lacked any cultivation base.
Su Yi gingerly got up from his seat and followed Lin Qingshan.
Once they were gone, the uproar only grew more lively.
“I bet that wimp won’t even last ten minutes in the Demon Suppressing Tower! Would any of you like to bet on it?”
“Please, you think too highly of Su Yi. Even if he gets lucky, I’m positive he can only hold out for five minutes at most.”
“For all we know, a Ferocious Beast could knock him out the moment he steps into the space.”
“Su Yi is your classmate!” Cao Qinglang cried out, unable to bear hearing any more of their derogatory words. “If you don’t support him, then that’s fine. But don’t speak ill of him behind his back!”
Not only was he Su Yi’s deskmate, but he was also the latter’s best friend. Su Yi’s only friend, really.
Naturally, Cao Qinglang would not stand for others badmouthing Su Yi like this.
“He’s just a piece of scum,” one of the students retorted. “Why aren’t we allowed to tell it as it is?”
“You’re only a 2-star talent yourself, Cao Qinglang. What makes you think you’re in a position to speak up for Su Yi? If you have the guts to tell me to shut up, then why don’t you have a one-on-one combat with me? If you defeat me, I’ll retract everything I said about your dear friend.”
This came from Tang Liang, who made no effort to hide the disdain he felt.
Cao Qinglang was so enraged that his lips quivered. But he was smart enough to choose his battles. In the end, he just sighed.
Notwithstanding his 2-star talent, he barely made it to Vitality Stage Level 2. Within the walls of the Third Ancient Martial Academy, it really didn’t amount to much. Tang Liang was right, he had no right to speak at all.
“Let’s go and see how long Su Yi lasts in the Demon Suppressing Tower,” Chen Hao suggested, breaking the tense atmosphere.
“Oh, yes! Let’s go take a look!”
The classroom emptied as the students filtered out and headed over to the Demon Suppressing Tower.
They spread the word as they passed other classes, which stirred up a morbid interest among the student body about Su Yi’s fate.
It had been over a decade since someone had decided to break into the Demon Suppressing Tower.
Needless to say, everyone wanted to see what would happen this time around.
Meanwhile, Lin Qingshan and Su Yi had finally reached the Demon Suppressing Tower.
It was about 30 meters tall, and its entire body was black as ink. It stood tall in one corner of the Martial Arts Practice Field, looming over the campus like an ominous entity.
Despite its foreboding appearance, it looked relatively ordinary on the outside. It was just another tower.
But it was a spatial treasure, and its interior reached far more than the human brain could comprehend.
At this point, those who had caught wind of Su Yi’s predicament all came to the Martial Arts Practice Field. They gathered in clusters, discussing their predictions and occasionally maligning Su Yi.
Lin Qingshan strode to the entrance of the Demon Suppressing Tower and pressed a green piece of rock lodged among the stones that made up its outer wall.
There was a muffled rumble from the inside, followed by a drawn-out creak as the doors of the tower opened. A gust of wind blew past Su Yi, making his clothes flutter around his bony frame.
