C11 Deadly Love Poison
"Who are you? What do you intend to do?"
Pei Junlin's abrupt entrance instantly drew the ire of the medical experts surrounding the silver-haired elder. Their anger intensified upon realizing that the intruder was a mere youth.
These were renowned authorities in the medical field, with reputations to match. They would not tolerate such insolence from a young man in their presence!
Yet, Pei Junlin seemed oblivious to their vitriol, his gaze fixed on the elder's chest. A subtle flame flickered at his fingertip, touching the silver-haired man's chest in a swift motion.
The elder, previously wincing in pain, emitted a stifled groan and then collapsed into unconsciousness.
"Dad!"
"Old Master Tang!"
"Grandpa!"
Cries of alarm echoed in quick succession. Pei Junlin's actions had sparked an uproar. A crowd surged forward, their voices laced with panic. Seeing the elder faint, their fury knew no bounds.
A middle-aged man, exuding authority and command, charged towards Pei Junlin. "Young man, you owe me a reasonable explanation! Who are you? Who gave you permission to be here?"
The crowd encircling Pei Junlin raised a chorus of accusations, branding him a would-be killer. "You scoundrel, what have you done to the Old Master? Speak up!"
"Listen here, if anything happens to the Old Master, you're going to pay dearly!"
The mood in the hall shifted dramatically, with the expressions of many VIPs turning grave.
Nearby, Tang Hao and Tang Bei'er's faces darkened, Tang Hao's in particular. He had not anticipated Pei Junlin's rash behavior.
"Tang Hao, you've really stirred up trouble this time! This man is clearly a fraud, and yet you let him attend to Grandfather!" Tang Bei'er's voice dripped with scorn as she berated Tang Hao.
From the start, she had pegged Pei Junlin as a charlatan. The Tang family, influential as they were, had access to numerous medical experts for Old Master Tang's care. They had no need for Pei Junlin. Should word of this incident spread, it would bring nothing but mockery to the Tangs. In that moment, Tang Bei'er's frustration reached its peak.
Tang Hao's expression was dark and stormy. Despite his significant standing within the Tang family, he knew that if Old Master Tang's life was truly at risk today, his high status wouldn't shield him from severe repercussions.
"Dad, Tang Hao is the one who brought this charlatan!" Tang Bei'er's voice rang out sharply.
Her accusation drew the eyes of the crowd, all turning to scrutinize Tang Hao.
The middle-aged man who had first pointed the finger at Pei Junlin glared at Tang Hao and bellowed, "What the hell is this mess?"
He was Tang Bei'er's father and the Tang family's second son. Having been appointed mayor of Qingzhou City two years prior, he was undeniably among the city's elite.
Dressed in a striking red, Tang Bei'er stepped forward and recounted the events leading up to Tang Hao introducing Pei Junlin to the family, embellishing several details for effect. She then turned to Pei Junlin with a mocking smile.
As Tang Bei'er's story unfolded, suspicion crept into the gazes that the assembly cast upon Tang Hao.
A woman, exuding grace and luxury, chided, "Tang Hao, even if you're trying to impress the Old Master, at least choose someone credible. Don't just drag any stranger into our home!"
"You've really stirred up trouble this time, Tang Hao! Being the Old Master's beloved grandson doesn't give you free rein. We expect a full account from you today," added another woman, her tone stern.
A chorus of disapproval rose, with Tang Hao and Pei Junlin at the receiving end of the collective ire. Several doctors, visibly upset, shifted the blame squarely onto Pei Junlin.
"Even as renowned figures in medicine, we wouldn't dare act so rashly with the Old Master, given the delicate nature of his condition. Your audacity is astounding!" an elderly doctor with white hair exclaimed in anger.
His colleagues nodded in agreement, "You must be desperate for fame. Did you really think you could fool us, as if we were gullible paupers in a park? It's utterly laughable! Now you've managed to trap yourself as well!"
Surrounded by the clamor, Pei Junlin's eyebrows arched in annoyance. If not for the lure of three million yuan, he would have walked away long ago.
He was the Asura General who had vanquished countless worlds and the cosmos itself. He wasn't just a killer; he was also a master of weapon and pill refinement and an expert in formations. And now, to be mocked like this? It was utterly laughable!
As Tang Hao stood defiantly silent under a barrage of criticism, Pei Junlin's respect for him grew. Unable to contain himself, Pei Junlin inquired, "Tang Hao, are we still going to save the Old Master?"
A man with a hawk-like nose and sunken eyes scoffed in response, "And just how do you plan to save him? You're far too presumptuous! You're nothing but a charlatan. What gives you such audacity?" His name was Lee Ye, also known as Divine Doctor Lee, a renowned surgeon from Qingzhou City with numerous accolades to his name.
Faced with such scorn, Pei Junlin's patience wore thin. He glanced at Lee Ye and remarked quietly, "Your insight is quite limited."
Pei Junlin's voice carried, and many in the crowd heard his comment, leaving them utterly astonished.
Lee Ye, infuriated more than anyone, glared and spat out, "You scoundrel, what did you just say?"
With a cold smile and one hand casually resting behind his back, Pei Junlin's youthful face belied eyes that spoke of deep experience. In an even tone, he retorted, "In the Myriad Worlds, there are countless medical cases. You're merely a surgeon; even if you were a legendary healer reborn, you couldn't claim to have seen them all. To call your knowledge limited is, in fact, putting it mildly."
Lee Ye was seething, nearly choking with rage, yet he found no words to counter Pei Junlin's truth.
"Anyone can boast, kid, but few possess the true skill. You seem quite confident. Is it because you can actually cure Old Master Tang's condition?" someone challenged.
Pei Junlin simply nodded, "Naturally."
What?
The crowd's skepticism was palpable, their expressions shifting as they processed his claim. Hope sparked in Tang Hao's eyes.
"Don't listen to him, everyone. He's nothing but a fraud! He's only after that three million!" Tang Bei'er cried out. She couldn't explain it, but she had an intense dislike for Pei Junlin. To her, his grimy robe was an affront to her very sight.
"Listen, kid, this isn't the time for tall tales. If you fail to save Old Master Tang, you're going to be in deep trouble," Lee Ye said with a cold laugh.
Pei Junlin replied with a hint of scorn, "And what if I do save him?"
"Should you actually pull it off, I'll kneel before you and bow my head in apology, right in front of everyone," Lee Ye declared, his voice booming with confidence.
Pei Junlin remained silent.
The surrounding crowd watched the exchange, their faces etched with increasing scorn. Pei Junlin's hesitation was apparent to them, and they labeled him a fraud. They were convinced that when push came to shove, his true nature would be exposed.
"Scram, impostor. The Tang family will take care of you in a bit!" Tang Bei'er taunted with a sneer of arrogance.
Tang Hao, on the other hand, watched Pei Junlin with a tense gaze. After a moment's thought, he spoke with gravity, "Sir, if you have any methods, please proceed. I, Tang Hao, will take full responsibility."
A faint smile played on Pei Junlin's lips, his respect for the young man named Tang Hao growing.
"Saving the Old Master is actually quite simple."
"The real question is, does the Old Master himself wish to be saved by me?"
The crowd was momentarily dumbfounded, puzzled by his words.
Then, Pei Junlin struck the Old Master's Dantian with his palm. A surge of invisible energy erupted. Old Master Tang, who had been in a deep coma, suddenly opened his mouth, expelling a thick glob of phlegm, and slowly, his eyes fluttered open.
