C13 Fight to the Death!
In the morning hustle and bustle of Qingzhou City, a bizarre sight suddenly captured the attention of pedestrians.
The shrill wail of police sirens filled the air as two motorcycles adorned with flashing lights led the procession. They were followed by a pair of police cruisers and a fleet of Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury cars speeding down the road, drawing the astonished stares of onlookers.
Most assumed a VIP must be in town for an inspection.
"Grandfather, Mr. Pei will have you at your destination shortly! Just hold on a bit longer!" "Dad, please hold on!"
Inside a plush RV, Tang Hao and Mayor Tang Jicheng sat with Tang Baichuan, offering words of comfort. Yet, Tang Baichuan appeared oblivious to their efforts, his expression one of deepening agony, his body soaked with sweat.
Pei Junlin and two eminent physicians stayed vigilantly by Tang Baichuan's side. Despite their expertise, they were at a loss to ease his suffering.
In desperation, Tang Jicheng called out to Pei Junlin, "Mr. Pei, you've managed to alleviate the Old Master's pain before. Could you please try to treat him once more?"
Pei Junlin remained silent, his hand firmly pressed to Tang Baichuan's chest, as though tuning into something unseen. Finally, he looked up and said, "Mayor Tang, it's not that I'm unwilling to help the Old Master, but rather that I'm unable to."
Pei Junlin's admission left everyone in the vehicle bewildered. Given his prior success treating Old Master Tang at the Tang family villa, their confusion was tinged with a reluctance to question his judgment.
Sensing their doubts, Pei Junlin removed his hand from Tang Baichuan's chest. In the next instant, gasps echoed through the RV. Eyes widened in shock as they all fixed their gaze on Old Master Tang's chest.
A tumor the size of a fingertip bulged near his heart. The tumor itself would be concerning enough, but it was the unsettling movement within that held everyone's rapt attention—as if some living entity was writhing inside, ready to burst forth from his chest.
Witnessing the scene before them, even the well-traveled individuals inside the vehicle were taken aback. They struggled to fathom the horror of someone harboring such an odd creature within their body.
With each thud of the mysterious entity, Tang Baichuan's face contorted in increased agony, his veins protruding starkly against his skin.
Suddenly, one of the doctors quivered as a realization struck him. Meanwhile, after a moment of dread, the rest regained their calm.
Pei Junlin nodded affirmatively, "Yes, that's the Deadly Love Poison I mentioned. It's the cause of Old Master's excruciating pain! You've been curious about why I insisted on driving Old Master out, right? Now, I'll explain."
Through Pei Junlin's revelations, they began to grasp the nature of the Deadly Love Poison. It was a unique affliction, cast only between two people deeply in love. If both were well, the poison would lie dormant, causing neither pain nor lasting harm.
But should one be at death's door or already passed, the poison would activate, inflicting immediate and unbearable pain on the surviving lover.
Pei Junlin's explanation left everyone in the RV with eyes wide in astonishment, deeply shaken by the bizarre reality.
"Turn left, now! Quick!" Pei Junlin, who had been intently monitoring the Deadly Love Poison within Tang Baichuan, commanded urgently.
The shrill sound of brakes pierced the air as the RV broke away from the convoy, veering onto a new path and throwing the procession into disarray.
Inside the RV, Tang Hao looked up sharply, "The Deadly Love Poison is reserved for two people in love, but my grandmother has long since passed away!"
At Tang Hao's words, his second uncle, Tang Jicheng, delivered a stern slap across his face, his expression darkening.
With an air of bewilderment, Tang Hao couldn't grasp why he'd been struck, while the two astute doctors cleared their throats awkwardly.
Tang Jicheng, fraught with anxiety, inquired, "Mr. Pei, are you suggesting that Old Master's condition isn't as dire as we feared, that there's still a chance for recovery?"
Pei Junlin nodded and replied, "Mayor Tang, you're quite astute. However, the Old Master's condition is far from good. His life hangs in the balance, entirely contingent on that individual's state! Should any misfortune befall that person, I can't assure you that I'll be able to save Tang Baichuan! We're essentially racing against the reaper. All we can do is hope that this person is within close proximity to Baichuan and can endure a bit longer. Quick! The Venomous Insect's movement has shifted again—turn right!"
Once more, the shrill screech of brakes filled the air as the RV veered sharply, this time into the oncoming lane, throwing the street into chaos. Amidst the cacophony of honking and swearing, the RV maintained a steady course, thanks to the driver's adept handling, even against the flow of traffic.
The convoy trailing behind, however, could only watch helplessly as the Mercedes-Benz RV pulled away, unable to keep pace.
Time flew, and by past one in the afternoon, the Mercedes-Benz had long since left the confines of Qingzhou City. It was now navigating a rutted country lane in a remote village.
Inside the vehicle, Tang Baichuan writhed in agony, his body convulsing—a testament to Pei Junlin's intervention. Without it, it was doubtful whether the Tang family's Sect Master would have survived this long. The ordeal laid bare the horrifying nature of the Deadly Love Poison.
They had reached a small county town some two hundred kilometers from Qingzhou City, a place mired in poverty and underdevelopment. The fields lay fallow, overgrown with weeds, and the majority of the inhabitants were women and children. The absence of young adults was telling; they had likely been driven by necessity to seek work elsewhere.
Confronted with the bleak surroundings, Tang Jicheng couldn't contain his concern. "Mr. Pei, are you certain the place we're searching for is here?"
As the mayor of Qingzhou City, he was well aware that they were in a small, severely underdeveloped county town in the Jiangbei Region.
Moreover, they were situated in a decrepit village, a good distance from the county seat, where the living conditions were particularly dire. The occasional sight of women and children in threadbare clothing, their frames frail and emaciated, was a stark indicator of the widespread malnutrition.
Pei Junlin remained silent as the RV continued on its way. Suddenly, he felt the Deadly Love Poison within him pulsate with an unprecedented ferocity. "Stop the car!" he yelled without hesitation.
Before the RV had even come to a complete halt, Pei Junlin flung open the door and leaped out. His gaze was fixed intently on the ramshackle fence surrounding the small courtyard ahead.
