C13 Prepare for the Apocalypse

Qin Feng was merely an ordinary person who had begun his evolution but hadn't yet seen it through to completion.

He stood no chance of single-handedly holding off the Devil Eye Ratmen outside. Thus, he needed to rally everyone around him to join the fight if they were to have any hope of enduring until the sunrise.

The reason they needed to last until dawn was that these Devil Eye Ratmen were the first wave of creatures to emerge from the abyss into the Blue Star. These abyssal beings hadn't yet acclimated to the Blue Star's environment, causing them discomfort, and they had a particular aversion to sunlight.

So, if they could hold out until six in the morning, when the first rays of sunlight broke through, the Source Qi at the Abnormal Spot would be scattered by the intense sunlight. The monsters that had emerged would be forced to retreat back into the Abyss World, biding their time for the next chance to invade the Blue Star. Surviving this prolonged night was a life-or-death challenge for everyone.

The guests in the banquet hall, still bewildered by Qin Feng's explanation, instinctively began searching for any weapons at hand.

Zhong Yanan alone remained seated, gazing in shock at the man bleeding before her, tears streaming down her face. "We should administer first aid," she wept.

"He's beyond saving now."

Qin Feng bowed his head, glancing at the grievous wound on the man's neck before shaking his head with a chilling detachment.

The man's injuries were catastrophic. His neck was half-devoured, his esophagus and trachea laid bare, and his cervical spine was gone. Apart from a faint breath, he showed no other signs of life.

Death was a harsh reality. To Qin Feng, hardened by the apocalyptic carnage, this was a familiar sight, one that failed to stir any emotion within him.

"No, he's still a life. Can we really just abandon him?" Zhong Yanan's voice was laced with despair as she implored Qin Feng, "Please, try to save him."

Qin Feng's response was one of stoic indifference. In the apocalypse, tears and pleas were the cheapest currency.

"I suggest you keep your distance. The monster's claws and teeth carry pathogens from another world. Anyone who comes into contact with these germs could become infected and undergo a mutation."

This is the true source of despair in the apocalypse. It's not just the relentless slaughter and the hordes of brutal monsters that plague humanity, but also the multitude of viruses emerging from the abyss. These viruses are the real horror, as no one knows what transformations await those who are infected.

"Nan, come on, get up. Stop touching him." Lu Shaojie, who had been frozen in shock for several minutes, snapped out of it. He approached Zhong Yanan, intending to pull her away.

"Don't you dare touch me!" Zhong Yanan snapped back, her face livid with anger. She shoved Lu Shaojie aside and demanded, "He's your uncle, for heaven's sake. Why won't you save him?"

The banquet hall, chosen for Lu Shaojie and Zhong Yanan's engagement celebration, was filled with their kin.

Besides Zhong Yanan's stepmother and Lu Shaojie's biological parents, numerous other relatives were present.

The first to be bitten was, by cruel fate, one of Lu Shaojie's uncles.

Zhong Yanan's rebuke turned Lu Shaojie's face ashen. Clenching his teeth, he glanced at his dying uncle on the floor and declared coldly, "He's nothing but a distant relative. His life or death means nothing to me."

Zhong Yanan was stunned by his words, and disbelief rippled through the crowd of guests.

"Shaojie, how could you say such a thing?" his parents exclaimed, outraged. "Your uncle has been there for you since you were a child!"

With a grimace, Lu Shaojie bit down hard, his cheeks quivering as he retorted, "This is not my concern. In the end times, I can't even protect myself, let alone save him."

The banquet hall had descended into pandemonium. The wails of women, the stern voices of men, and the heated exchange between Lu Shaojie and his family only added to the tumult.

Qin Feng paid no mind to the squabbling. His icy gaze landed on Wang Gang, who was shivering nearby. He moved towards him and said in a low voice, "Gang, don't panic. Find yourself a weapon, quick."

He then picked up a table leg that had been torn off and handed it to the quaking man before him. "I might not be able to fully protect you soon," Qin Feng cautioned, "so you'll need to toughen up."

Regrettably, Wang Gang lacked resilience.

The man, tipping the scales at over two hundred kilograms and standing at 1.85 meters, seemed as vulnerable as a newborn.

Shaking, he clutched the table leg and asked with a quivering voice, "Qin Feng, why did you bring me to such a perilous place? Why didn't you clue me in earlier?"

Qin Feng stayed quiet.

He doubted Wang Gang would have believed him even if he had been forewarned.

Some truths gain credibility only through personal experience.

Moreover, with less than two months until the apocalypse, Qin Feng had to introduce Wang Gang to the Abnormal Spot sooner rather than later to get him accustomed to the brutal reality they would soon face. How else would Wang Gang cope when calamity hit?

Qin Feng's actions were always deliberate.

"Zip it for a second. Hear me out," Qin Feng instructed.

After a brief pause, Qin Feng shoved Wang Gang aside and said sternly, "I'm not out to get you. Get a grip. Can you feel your heart racing, your blood coursing differently? Is there a warmth in your chest, a sensation you've never felt before?"

Wang Gang paused, then gradually reined in his emotions. He closed his eyes, focusing intently, and indeed, he noticed a distinct change.

In a frosty tone, Qin Feng explained, "I brought you here with two goals in mind. First, to get you acclimated to the apocalyptic carnage. Second, to kick-start your evolution. Stop questioning my motives. Right now, breathe deeply and harness the energy in the air without delay. You'll appreciate the advantages of this soon enough."

In a past life, Wang Gang had been a superpowered person with formidable combat abilities, just like Qin Feng.

His aptitude and efficiency in harnessing Source Qi even surpassed Qin Feng's. Had he not met an untimely end, he might have evolved into a Level Four superpowered person.

Despite Wang Gang's current struggles, Qin Feng was confident that once Wang Gang adjusted to the Source Qi's transformative effects on his body, he would undoubtedly become an exceptional ally.

After all, Wang Gang's abilities had become incredibly formidable following his evolution.

Suddenly, a thunderous blast shattered the brief calm within the banquet hall.

Qin Feng, in the midst of consoling Wang Gang, had his face turn pale with alarm. He jerked his head up, peering intently toward a specific area on the second floor of the hall, and asked, "Isn't the window on the second floor closed?"
