C18 Change
By this point, Qin Feng had said all that needed to be said and had nearly completed all that needed to be done.
He had made his way into the Abnormal Spot, planning to elude the monsters while undergoing transformation by the Source Qi. His goal was to serenely absorb the energy and await the break of dawn.
Conceding that he couldn't win, he chose to hide instead of attempting to rescue those outside.
Qin Feng was no deity; he was merely a man caught in a struggle for survival amidst the catastrophe. Managing to save Wang Gang and Zhong Yanan was already pushing his limits.
Undoubtedly, Wang Gang and Zhong Yanan were far luckier than those outside.
Yet, in another sense, they were also deeply unfortunate. Even if they survived this ordeal, the relentless disasters would continue. The living would be forced to confront an even harsher reality.
Zhong Yanan could do nothing but stifle her sobs, while Wang Gang leaned against a wall, exerting all his willpower to contain his inner turmoil, his mind racing with Qin Feng's words.
Time slipped away in the quiet.
Eventually, the screams outside began to subside. But the end of the screams didn't signify the end of the disaster; it merely indicated that few remained alive.
Aside from a handful of extraordinarily fortunate individuals, nearly everyone at the resort had perished under the monsters' lethal claws.
After the carnage ceased, chaos reigned.
Peering through the window, Qin Feng could clearly see the ground littered with severed limbs, blood, and flesh, along with scattered organ fragments and stark white bones—a veritable purgatory.
The monsters, having gorged on their grisly banquet, had temporarily withdrawn into the thick fog.
The world appeared to fall silent, yet Qin Feng remained vigilant.
He was aware that any disturbance within the resort would beckon the monsters' return.
A significant number of Devil Eye Ratmen were likely still lurking within the resort, much like him, concealed in the shadows.
Realizing this, Qin Feng settled down with patience, placing his long rod across his knees, and continued to diligently refine the Source Qi from the air.
While Qin Feng maintained his composure, Zhong Yanan found it impossible to do the same.
Zhong Yanan couldn't detect any noise from outside, leading her to believe that the monsters must have been sated and retreated to their lair. With this thought, she ceased her quiet weeping and cautiously made her way to the door.
"Stop right there!" Qin Feng was quick to catch Zhong Yanan's subtle movement, his voice icy, "Have you forgotten what I just told you?"
Feeling utterly helpless and bordering on despair, Zhong Yanan pleaded, "I just want to check outside and, while I'm at it, find Aunt Wang's body."
"No way," Qin Feng cut her off decisively. He warned her that stepping outside now was tantamount to a death wish.
Zhong Yanan, biting her lip, challenged him, "But haven't the monsters left?"
Qin Feng let out a derisive laugh. "Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they're gone. These creatures from the Abyss World are far more patient than you think. Their hunger is insatiable. They won't leave until they've eradicated every last one of us."
Still skeptical, Zhong Yanan was about to argue when she caught sight of two shadowy figures through the window, moving stealthily through the dense fog outside.
It was Lu Shaojie and his father!
They had been fortunate, surviving the recent slaughter and finding a safe haven to take refuge.
Now that the second wave of carnage had subsided, they must have assumed it was safe and ventured out to search for their loved ones' remains.
Zhong Yanan's spirits lifted at the sight of them, and she was about to call out their names when Qin Feng sprang into action, clamping his hand over her mouth and hissing, "Keep quiet. The monsters out there have extraordinary senses of hearing and smell. Making noise will only reveal our location."
Zhong Yanan blinked furiously, signaling to Qin Feng that she wouldn't yell out again. He removed his hand, and she whispered, "I just want to bring Lu Shaojie and Uncle Lu inside."
"No," Qin Feng remained firm.
"Why not?" Zhong Yanan was bewildered.
Losing his patience but still explaining coldly, Qin Feng said, "The more people we have, the stronger our scent becomes. If we cluster together, it'll only make things worse."
On the surface, the carnage outside appeared to have ceased. Yet, Qin Feng was convinced that a number of Devil Eye Ratmen were still lurking in the dense fog.
As a result, Qin Feng was keen to avoid any disturbances and was adamant that Zhong Yanan should not leave to search for Lu Shaojie and the others.
This was a tough pill for Zhong Yanan to swallow. She couldn't bring herself to agree with Qin Feng's reasoning and thought him to be excessively callous. Just when she was on the verge of branding him a ruthless jerk, calamity struck again.
Lu Shaojie and his father found themselves in peril, stumbling through the fog.
A furry black shape emerged from beneath a black SUV. It leapt at them the instant it spotted them, launching an unhesitating attack.
"Why haven't these monsters left?" Lu Shaojie and his father screamed, retreating in a panic.
But the creature was formidable and its leaping prowess was remarkable. It sprang from the car roof, covering five meters in a bound, and landed on Lu Shaojie's shoulder.
"Get off me!" Lu Shaojie writhed and flailed at the creature in desperation. His father grabbed a stick and struck the creature's head with force.
Together, they managed to fend off the beast. Yet before they could catch their breath, a second and third Devil Eye Ratman burst from the fog, bellowing as they charged.
"Oh no! They're going to die!" Zhong Yanan and Wang Gang cried out in unison. Zhong Yanan couldn't bear it and shielded her eyes. She couldn't stomach the sight of such a gruesome bloodbath.
To her astonishment, Lu Shaojie survived.
He fought back.
As the trio of monsters converged on him, Lu Shaojie seized one by the neck and slammed it to the ground, then sent another flying with a kick.
His strength had grown, his reflexes sharpened, and his agility enhanced. He kicked a monster, sending it reeling back two meters.
Wang Gang and Zhong Yanan were stunned by his prowess. "How did he suddenly get so strong?" Zhong Yanan whispered.
"He's begun to evolve," came the answer.
Qin Feng, too, witnessed the scene unfold from the window, yet he remained unfazed.
While each person's experience and innate gift for energy conversion varied, God granted fairness to all.
Following the emergence of the Abnormal Spot, the air became rich with Source Qi. This Source Qi was beneficial not only to Qin Feng but to every person who visited the resort.
The difference lay in individual talents, which meant that the rate of energy absorption varied from person to person. Qin Feng had the advantage of the Dragon Bone, which allowed him to evolve rapidly. The pace of evolution was unique to each individual.
Yet, even for those whose evolution progressed slowly, their bodies would inevitably transform over time.
The current display from Lu Shaojie was a testament to this truth.
