C23 The Grief and Indignation of Wang Gang

The fight had raged for three minutes before a drastic reversal occurred.

Zhong Yanan, who had initially been in control, was finally forced on the defensive due to fatigue. The monsters, incited by the scent of blood, began to howl, their excitement mounting.

Retreating was Zhong Yanan's only option. She aimed to take refuge in the equipment room once more, hoping to leverage the confined space against the creatures.

But the monsters were cunning and had anticipated her strategy. Two Devil Eye Ratmen seized the moment to flank her, cutting off her escape. One of them struck at her back.

Caught off guard, Zhong Yanan felt the creature's claws slam into her with force.

The blow was meant for Zhong Yanan's nape, yet it was Lu Shaojie who cried out in agony.

Lu Shaojie, sprawled across Zhong Yanan's back, had absorbed the deadly strike for her.

The monster's strength was immense. Even though Lu Shaojie had intercepted the blow, the power behind the claws sent Zhong Yanan tumbling to the ground, leaving Lu Shaojie unprotected. As the second monster's claws came hurtling towards her, she instinctively released Lu Shaojie and rolled away to dodge the attack.

A scream of pain followed from Lu Shaojie.

Stripped of Zhong Yanan's protection and already gravely wounded, Lu Shaojie stood no chance. A pack of monsters descended upon him, eagerly devouring the flesh they ripped from his body.

"Shaojie!" Zhong Yanan's scream was one of utter despair as she witnessed the horrific scene. Despite her efforts, she couldn't save him.

But the nightmare was far from over. Lu Shaojie's body was not enough to satiate the hunger of the Devil Eye Ratmen, and they turned their attention back to Zhong Yanan. Drained of energy, she was no match for their onslaught.

One of the creatures raked a gory gash across the back of Zhong Yanan's neck, eliciting a piercing scream from her.

Her thigh was wounded next. Her elegant evening gown was shredded by the monster's talons, exposing her pale thigh. At a glance, there was an unintended allure to her appearance. Sadly, the monsters had no interest in her beauty.

They tore at her dress with the sole intent of consuming her flesh.

In the face of death, Zhong Yanan summoned her strength once more. With a heart-wrenching cry, she struck a monster squarely in the face.

The slap sent the creature spinning in place. She let out a shriek as she scrambled to her feet and bolted away.

Faced with the imminent threat of death, Zhong Yanan tapped into her last reserves of energy. She had no idea where to run or who might come to her rescue.

Overwhelmed by despair, Zhong Yanan's mind went blank. She ran mechanically, pursued by six snarling monsters snapping at her heels. They leapt at her, their claws raking across her back in an attempt to bring her down.

Zhong Yanan couldn't count her injuries as her back went numb with pain, each gash oozing blood. The bleeding hastened the drain on her strength.

Grievous wounds marred her shoulders, thighs, and arms. They weren't lethal, but they sapped the strength of the weary Zhong Yanan, leaving her unable to fight back.

Eventually, covered in blood, Zhong Yanan could run no more. She let out a cry of despair as she crashed onto the concrete. The monsters closed in, their sharp claws shredding her back in a frenzy.

"God, why are you doing this to me?" Zhong Yanan coughed up blood, her consciousness slipping away. Her feeble screams echoed her despair.

It appeared her end was certain.

Despair led her to close her eyes, wishing for a swift end to her suffering.

But Zhong Yanan did not die.

In the moment she was about to be ripped apart, a formidable figure burst onto the scene, steel pipe in hand, bellowing with rage.

It was Wang Gang!

In the final seconds of her life, Wang Gang, who had been cowering behind Qin Feng, could no longer stand idly by. He charged forward, his hefty frame of over two hundred kilograms and his cheeks jiggling as he bellowed.

With a single punch, he knocked the monster gnawing at Zhong Yanan's shoulder into the air.

"Come at me, you monsters! I'm not scared of you!" he roared.

Wang Gang, furious as a massive bear, swung his palms with a whooshing sound. The force behind each blow was as formidable as the axe swings Zhong Yanan had mustered with all her might.

With a forceful palm strike, Wang Gang snapped the monster's neck. Yet, his rage remained unquenched.

His left hand balled into a fist, his right gripping a steel pipe, he pulverized the creature's skull. Blood and brains splattered across the ground.

Swiftly, he positioned himself behind Zhong Yanan, standing protectively like an iron fortress. His fists and pipe danced in deadly rhythm, dispatching every monster that dared approach.

In the midst of the fray, he merely sat to the side, an observer to the chaos. He neither rushed to Zhong Yanan's aid nor lent his strength to Wang Gang's onslaught.

He simply watched with detached calmness, a slight smile eventually creeping across his indifferent face.

Qin Feng felt a sense of satisfaction; Wang Gang had at last awakened.

Wang Gang, a towering figure at 1.85 meters, had a physique that belied his faint-heartedness. Despite his imposing appearance, he was known for his timidity.

He had been present in every prior battle, yet his contributions were limited to shivering behind Qin Feng.

This was not the transformation Qin Feng had envisioned.

He hadn't exerted so much effort just for Wang Gang to be a mere spectator.

It was only through the crucible of carnage and bloodshed that Wang Gang's latent potential could be ignited, to become as formidable as he had been in his past life.

Qin Feng had been relentlessly pushing him toward this end.

Now, his efforts had borne fruit.

Watching Wang Gang, now fearless and fighting with fervor, Qin Feng couldn't help but laugh heartily, a genuine expression of his delight.

The battle was over in a flash.

The Devil Eye Ratmen, mere scavengers of the Abyss World, stood no chance. Their sharp claws and savage nature were trivial against Wang Gang, now with his violent instincts awakened.

Moreover, Wang Gang's aptitude for harnessing Source Qi far exceeded Qin Feng's own in his previous existence.

Without the power of the Dragon Bone, Qin Feng would never have outpaced Wang Gang's evolutionary speed.

In under two minutes, the six pursuing Devil Eye Ratmen lay slain, their end a gruesome sight.

As the dust settled, Wang Gang sat in a daze. Staring at his fists, coated in the monster's viscera, and the claw-induced gashes on his arms, he was shell-shocked. His complexion ashen, he struggled to grasp the reality of his own doing.

He murmured under his breath, "It turns out Qin Feng wasn't lying after all. Evolution truly does exist in this world."
